SSC CGL News: Test Level Too Difficult, Candidates Demand Normalization of Scores

Students have been preparing for the Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level 2017 examination with all their heart and soul. And it so happens that the difficulty level of the tests conducted after 16 August was way high. The students are up and voicing their demand for scores of the test be normalized after the SSC CGL 2017 answer keys were released. In this latest does of SSC CGL news, let us look at how students are reacting and whether it will have any effect on the Commission.

As per the official notification, there are 4733 SSC CGL 2017 vacancies, and some 15,43,962 young men and women have appeared in the exam. The CGL 2017 exams were held from 5 to 23 August in 43 batches spread across the country.

One dishearted SSC CGL candidate has started a Facebook page asking for normalization of the score. On Quora, he wrote "We are doing it because we know we were not given a level playing field. All we wanted was fair chance and nothing more, and we have been robbed of it," he wrote adding "Like many, I come from a middle-class background and after doing coaching and staying away from home and spending around 2 lac of hard earned money of my parents in one year, I get this. And moreover, there is no fault of ours in it. This is just unfair."

But What Does Normalization Mean?

How will it help the SSC CGL aspirants?

After checking the answer sheets, the candidate's normalized scores are calculated corresponding to the marks that the candidate has scored. Because the exams occurred in different shifts, normalization of scores will ensure that the results are fair.

So far there has been no announcement, nothing on the front of SSC CGL 2017 latest news on this topic. This is worrisome for the candidates.

This is bound to happen. If the exams occured in a single shift, there would have been similar difficulty level. But the different shifts have given rise to the demand of normalization of scores.
Normalisation of scores is an established practice for CAT, why shouldn't the SSC adopt it too?

Result for the SSC CGL tier 1 will be announced on October 31. The exam was computer-based and had some 25 questions. Candidates had to cover general awareness, reasoning, English comprehension and quantitative aptitude. As you may know, each of the sections will carry a weight of 50 marks, and there will be a deduction of 0.5 marks for every wrong answer. As if negative marking weren't enough, now SSC CGL 2017 candidates have to face a new hurdle in achieving their dreams.

The SSC CGL 2017 result is yet to come out, but we urge you not to worry too much because there is always the next year, next exams.

You must keep your dreams intact and not give up. We will be posting more SSC CG exam news so that you don’t have a hunt on the internet for latest information. Visit us again.

  1. excellent article.thanks for sharing

  2. The demand seems valid and the normalization should be fool proof and should be transparent to every aspirant which will be very difficult. Hopefully may the best candidates get thought.
